Ranch of Opportunity

I love this project. The Ranch of Opportunity is a 30 bed unit for teen girls that sits on 30 acres, housing an Amish built barn, a guest house used for vocational training and out of town family and a sprawling lodge that the girls call home for 4-6 months. When I first saw the property, it was still very much a nursing facility with its gold chandeliers, flowered wallpaper and dark halls. We had less than 6 months to completely change the environment and create a comforting, healing space for the girls to live in, go to school, learn job skills and take part in equine therapy. We literally rolled up our sleeves and put on our trucker hats for this one! With a BIG Thank You to Frontgate, Ballard Designs, Pottery Barn and Grandin Road Outlets, we were able to furnish our “lodge” with comfortable, sturdy furnishings that otherwise would have been way out of our reach. We threw in antiques and a baby grand from Hauer Music in Dayton and created several massive stone fireplaces to create a cozy feel. Many of these children come to the ranch scared and unsure of where their future is headed. It is here, within these walls, that they feel safe and can relax, gaining the strength they need to overcome.
